Quorn Meatless Roast

If you’re vegetarian and gluten free, you know that it can be hard to find meat substitutes that aren’t made with vital wheat gluten. I think I got to try Tofurky one year. Thanks to Quorn, there is a delicious option for you! There’s no rule that says you have to have a turkey substitute if you don’t really care, but this is the best option that’s out there. It’s the star of my gluten free thanksgiving dinner. It takes about 1 hour to cook and could easily be cooked ahead of time if your oven space is limited.

Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Stuffing

I think that Trader Joe’s has the most accessible stuffing option. I don’t know of any other national grocery chains that have a GF stuffing. Of course you could make homemade stuffing that would taste better, but this is a good stove top option. Note that the seasoning pack it comes with does contain chicken fat, so the whole box is not vegetarian. However, we just discard the seasoning packet and use the bread crumbs with our own seasonings. This year I’m going to use their Everything but the Leftovers Seasoning, and I think it’s going to be great (I used about 1 tbsp in the recipe)! This stuffing is a staple for my gluten free thanksgiving dinner.

McCormick GF Brown Gravy

McCormick makes gluten free versions of their turkey gravy and their brown gravy. I’m honestly not sure why they produce one with wheat as a thickener and one with cornstarch when the GF cornstarch version looks the same. But, they do, so make sure you buy the ones with the green gluten free banner. Reading the ingredients in the brown gravy, it seems to be vegetarian. There is no obvious meat ingredients unless something is hiding in “natural flavors.” It does contain milk however.

Pacific Foods Cream of Mushroom Soup

Cream of mushroom soup can be hard to find gluten free because it’s usually thickened with wheat. However, Pacific Foods has come through again. They make a gluten free cream of mushroom soup which makes a great base for green bean casserole. I actually don’t know if I’ve used cream of mushroom for anything else!

Simple Organic Crispy Onions

Last but not least, the thing I have been hunting for you years, gluten free crispy onions. Another staple for green bean casserole that I have so desperately needed. This year, Kroger (or Fred Meyer for you west coast weirdos 😉) has answered my prayers. Gluten Free Crispy onions to top my green bean casserole. In years past, I had made my own version with caramelized onions and almonds. I think for this year, I’m going to have to ditch healthy, and go all in because I can now! I really wish you all could have seen my happy dance when I found these. I think it’s the most joy I’ve felt in quarantine!

So, those are some of my favorite gluten free Thanksgiving products that I’ve found over the years. Though hunting and trial and error, I’ve found the staple products I want on hand, so I can make a delicious meal that tastes just as good as it did before I went gluten free. And, in our house, usually the gluten eaters will still enjoy our stuffing and green bean casserole.
